A recent addition to our portfolio of PV Slate projects is this garden workshop in rural Oxfordshire. On receipt of the project brief from the client, GB-Sol designed a PV system based on the dimensions of the new-build structure. The size of the building allowed for a 2.2kW system - modest but very effective for a building of this size. The PV Slate complements the Welsh Cwt-y-Bugail natural slate that borders the entire PV Slate array. The client selected a Solar Edge inverter and the entire system was designed, supplied and installed by GB-Sol.

Back in February, GB-Sol provided free PV Slate installation training to pupils from a local youth club. This was for a project they'd designed - a digital bench to provide shelter to the homeless and also facilities to charge mobile phones.
Impressed by such an innovative idea, GB-Sol donated the PV Slates as well as a whole kit including batteries, charge controller and made special double USB charger and a 12 volt adaptor, to supply 24 hour power.
This week, GB-Sol had a special visit from pupils at Hawthorn High School. Working with Newydd Housing Association, they are designing a digital bench at a Pontypridd Church. It will provide a sheltered place for the homeless to sleep, and include USB charging facilities powered by solar.
The students brought along their roof frame and GB-Sol’s PV Product Manager, Lloyd Symonds, taught the school pupils how to install the PV Slates. These were fixed to the South elevation with natural slates on the opposite pitch.
A special charging pack was designed including two USB ports and an LED light. This will be connected to a battery to allow use of the electricity outside of daylight hours.

This week, GB-Sol succeeded in manufacturing the largest module in its 20 year solar manufacturing history.
GB-Sol are always keen to take on any challenge and producing a panel bigger than ever before was especially interesting. Each panel measuring 3.1m x 1.4m was composed of two layers of 6mm glass. They weighed over 120kg and required specialist equipment to transport around the factory.
They were installed at Durham University and each one contained 90 solar PV cells providing 425Wp.

We are pleased to reveal the latest pictures from one of our PV Slate installations in Bognor Regis.
The 186 PV Slates were installed in November 2017 across the large roof at the rear of the property. They blend seamlessly with the surrounding natural blue-grey slates.
The customer was ‘delighted’ with the look of the roof.

Our solar PV panels and roof integrated system (RIS) were featured on BBC’s X-Ray on Monday this week.
The building was designed by Cardiff University as part of the Solcer project, to produce an affordable carbon positive house. The integrated solar panels were manufactured with a transparent back so they could be observed from inside as part of the demonstration building.
Bespoke Solar PV panels designed and manufactured by GB-Sol have won the Solar Power Portal ‘Best in Show’ Solar Design Award along with installer Evo Energy.
Voted for by the public, the new award was created to recognise excellence in the field of aesthetics and design.
GB-Sol designed a unique full roof integrated system for Arnold Gilpin and Associates. Using custom sized PV laminates to fit the roof dimensions, the whole of the South elevation was covered in solar in a modern and aesthetic array to compliment the Architects design.
The GB-Sol design engineer produced CAD drawings of the construction and PV panels with dimensions adjusted to meet the architects roof dimensions providing a full width, weatherproof array. Further liaison enabled us to develop specific flashings adapted from our standard designs to match the overall roof design.
GB-Sol produced a new roof for an industrial unit. Composing of 84 PV laminates, the fully integrated system provided the perfect roofing material, offsetting roofing costs with the savings on electricity bills.
The client required a full roof of solar PV to replace the existing material, they also requested a roof light as part of the array to provide natural light to an office space without windows.
